O: The Final Battle

Heres the video from the very first brief we had to complete, i.e. 'Convince us, pursuade us'.

I had a few hiccups with my original blog, but the documentation can be seen here

A juxtaposition

Visual Literacy

This is probably my favourite album packaging this year, and I'm not even a fan of the Foo Fighters! It combines halves of two seperate images to seamlessly create a single image. The top half half is part of a bomb which is used in air bombings and raids and the bottom half is part of an amplifier tube.
From what I can tell this conveys two meanings (possibly more?). The first being that the music in the album is explosively good! The second could be more of a political message, maybe anti-war proposing an anti-war message through music.

This image was created in celebration of the 50th birthday of the peace sign. The peace sign acts as a synecdoche for ... well ... peace. The designer has put an image of a splatter or explosion maybe to symbolise that the vision of peace 50 years ago is far from realised.

These images are by an illustrator named Derek Hess known for creating very emotive illustrations with deep meanings. In these images he attempts to metaphorically convey emotional feelings through physical means. His description behind the third images goes like this, "Not to Dwell on the mistakes, faults, and failures of the past. Be done with remorse and contempt for yourself. Developing a new self-respect. Unless you respect yourself, others will not respect you. You ran a race and fell, you have risen again, and now press toward a goal of a better life. There's only been a delay that has prevented you from seeing the real goal sooner." Deep stuff.

This was a rejected illustration created for the packaging for the album 'Suck out the Poison' by 'He is Legend'. The metaphor being conveyed here seems to be that humans are polluting the planet through their actions.
